Automotive program coordinator Jenkins retires after 31 years

After 31 years in front of classes at the Idaho State University College of Technology, Bob Jenkins retired in January. He had served as an instructor and program coordinator in the automotive technology program since 1974.

Jenkins has not only taught at the College of Technology but was once a student there, too. He graduated from the ISU automotive program in 1963. Following graduation, he worked in industry until returning to ISU as the instructor for the basic automotive diesel program, teaching vehicle control and power trains. In 1993, Jenkins was appointed program coordinator.

"Over the past 31 years, I met a lot of people here at ISU. Many are friends and have made my life 'easier,'" Jenkins said. "But, watching students succeed following graduation, obtaining jobs as general or service managers all over the United States, has been one of the greatest highlights. When students graduate it is like losing one of your friends. Throughout the time you have them in your program you cry and hurt with them but you are there to support them."
