Overall, ISU sports fared well this weekend. Besides the defeats to the tennis and women's basketball teams, men's track and basketball showed life against rival opponents.

Thumbs up to the Athletic Department for implementing the 'Black Out' jam the gym for Saturday nights game against Weber State. Although not everyone dressed in all black, Reed Gym was packed to the gills and the boys were fired up to say the least. Sports on a college campus are very important, and they need to be appreciated and celebrated with exuberant spirit, even if victories don't come easy.

It's amazing that once the community embraces ISU athletics, the Bengals respond with flying colors. Saturday night was proof that a little added support goes a long way. The game was indeed a success even before it started. If I have any advice for future games, I would say that the student seating needs to be tweaked. Although many students did make an appearance at this game, the roars from the student section could have been much louder. This could be remedied by making all of section A the student section. The first students to show up sit on the floor level of section A. Students showing up later sit in the upper division. It's the only fair system.

Another thumbs up to ISU track for submitting a bid to take over hosting responsibilites for the NCAA indoor track and field championships. The University of Arkansas has hosted the event for the past six years. It's time for a change, and ISU should be the place. Holt Arena is a great facility for many things, but for track it seems like a match made in heaven. The Simplot games are living proof of that.
