POCATELLO, ID --- Idaho State University's men's basketball team was ranked #73, earning a spot in Street & Smith's 100 Greatest College Basketball Programs of All Time, which officially hit the newsstands last weekend.
The Bengals rank ahead of such prominent programs such as Boston College, Southern California, Washington, Gonzaga, and Arizona State. Idaho State is one of two Big Sky programs ranked, with Weber State coming in at #51 being the other program.
Street & Smith's put the list together using a formula based on NCAA Tournament appearances, NCAA Tournament wins, Final Fours, appearances in the title game, titles won, NIT championships, conference championships, conference tournament championships, all-time winning percentage, graduation rates, NCAA infractions, NBA first round picks, and mascot ferocity.
The Bengals totaled 302.56 points, helped in part by 11 NCAA Tournament appearances and eight NCAA wins. Kentucky was the number one program, followed in order by UCLA, North Carolina, Kansas, and Duke. Indiana, Louisville, Arkansas, Connecticut, and Cincinnati rounded out the top 10.
Idaho State received one full page in the magazine, featuring pictures and a story "A Game to Remember..." that highlights the 1977 win over UCLA as one of the greatest unknown college upsets of all-time.
