The ISU men's basketball team played their best game of the season Saturday night, dismantling Weber State 84-60 at Reed Gym.
ISU has won their last two conference games, giving the Bengals a record of 8-12 overall and 2-5 in Big Sky Conference action. Weber State drops its record to 8-12 and 3-5 in conference play.
The win gives ISU some much needed momentum as they try to climb back into the Big Sky Conference race.
"We are just taking it one game at a time," head coach Doug Oliver said. "Tonight gives us a chance. With this effort practice will be easier and confidence will be up."
The Bengals jumped out to an early 7-0 lead and never looked back. Slim Millien's hoop with 7:28 to go in the first half pushed the Bengal lead to 33-11. Millien led the Bengals with 19 points on 9-10 shooting and also collected 7 rebounds.
Jeff Gardner finished off a first half in which ISU could do no wrong by corralling a loose ball and hitting a shot from near half court to bring the crowd to its feet. Gardner's third three pointer of the half gave ISU a 49-28 halftime lead. Gardner hit 5 of 8 shots from beyond the arc for a 15 point night to go along with 4 assists.
ISU came out in the second half and continued their stellar play. Nate Rede's layup with 8:39 left in the game built the Bengal lead to 78-42. Rede poured in 18 points for ISU on 9-11 shooting. Arzelle Lewis hit 3 of 6 three point shots on his way to 11 points and 4 assists, giving ISU four players in double figures.
With the outcome no longer in doubt, Weber State finished off the game with an 18-6 run. Terrell Stovall led the Wildcats with 20 points. The 24 point victory was the highest of the season for the Bengals and the largest margin of victory in the 107 game series with Weber State.
The Bengals shot a red hot 64 percent from the field and 50 percent from three point range. ISU will take their momentum on the road next week as they head to Montana State on Feb. 3 and Montana on Feb. 5.
