The ISU Spring Career Fair, to be held March 9 at the PSUB Ballroom (9a.m.-3p.m.), will present those in attendance with over 50 perspective career options for the ever-looming era of professionalism. Companies in attendance include the FBI, New York Life and the World Financial Group, all offering students a number of ideas to better equip themselves for their crucial career selection.
Troy Kase of the ISU Career Center and the group organizing the fair, believe in the event's practical appeal to every facet of the student body, ranging from new freshman to upper-classmen who have already begun to accumulate possible companies for whom to practice their talents. There have already been several jobs acquired via the Career Fair by students in the past.
"It's a great resource for everyone," Kase said. "It's important to get everyone involved. They can gather information about what's out there as well as prepare themselves for career opportunities in the future."
Kase insists that those attending the fair with serious progress in mind need to do so with the proper preparations.
"Students should come professionally prepared and presentable," Kase said.
To match the multitude of companies being represented at the fair, the job opportunities they offer will be equally broad. There will be part-time, full-time, summer, and internship positions available through the assortment of companies present.
Kase recommends that students attend with open minds so as not to limit their options. Also, students should research potential companies before attending the fair to hold a better knowledge of the companies, thus allowing for more productive exchanges. Finally, for those very serious career seekers in attendance, bring a few copies of your resume to distribute to companies of interest.
The Spring Career Fair is held in addition to the Health Fair of the fall and the upcoming Education Fair this April. All events represent valid opportunities for students at ISU to progressively ascend their job ladder of choice.
In the past, the fairs have drawn great numbers of curious and ambitious students alike, reaching above 1000 on most occasions.
With graduation looming brightly on the respective horizons, and with the fickle and highly-competitive nature of the job market, the Career Fair is regarded as an opportune step for students.
