Our View: Thumbs up, thumbs down

Thumbs up to the City of Pocatello for adding numerous stop signs to the University District adjacent to the campus. This will allow for a safer environment for drivers, cyclist and pedestrians in a highly congested area of town. The only question, why didn't this happen sooner?

Thumbs down to the recent violent incidents concerning the community's beloved football players. The same day news broke on Jonathan Macciola punching a student during an intramural basketball game a press release made the sports page about Ernie James pleading guilty to domestic battery. The worst part, the victim's description of the manner in which James brutalized her, in front of their children. Talk about classy individuals.

Thumbs down to the ISU hacker Clifford Strupp. ISU student Cale Myers became victim of a computer crime earlier in the month. The hacker, ISU senior Strupp, now former Computer Center employee was charged last Wednesday with a felony for altering Myers' school Information. Apparently, the felony occurred after Myers issued Strupp with a $10 parking ticket. That $10 dollar ticket just became exponentially bigger.

Thumbs up to the ISU Track and Field teams. The men took the Big Sky Championship with striking fashion. The margin of victory was quite large thanks to all the hard working yet seldomly recognized athletes. This marks the first championship since 1998.

Thumbs down to the students who failed to voted in this years election. The total voter turnout for this years ASISU general election was 13 less votes for the executive ticket than last year.

Thumbs up those involved in voting for Soft Benefits for faculty partners.
