POCATELLO, ID. - The ISU men's rugby club traveled to Las Vegas over the past weekend to play the University of Nevada las Vegas. The Benglas defeated the Rebels 31 to 8 placing the Bengals 2-0 for the spring.
Weber State a divisional rival was unable to field a full team this spring. The Bengals remain in first place. The UNLV game was our first test and we came through in great shape. We have several opportunities to score more tries and blow UNLV total off the field.
All in all it was a very good outing for our first real match. I felt we dominated the game scoring first in the first ten minutes of the match. We played very hard and physical and that set the tone right away.
We are strong in every position. Everyone played well. Standouts were Mark Roberts the Bengals latest recruit from Ireland. mark scored three tries. Other standouts were veterans, Captain, Jess Willey, Co-captain, JC Freeman, Fono Valevale from Maui, Luke Barry who also scored a try, Eder Ramirez, and Jerry Tillmann. Rookie players, Asui Raass, Jason Gordon, Kenny Gahley, and Ngandu Chinene.
"I was pleased with our performance and we will be working hard over the next two weeks two prepare for arch-rival, Utah Valley State College, March 12, in Provo," Ram Eddings, Bengal rugby head coach said.
The UVSC game will determine who will go to the playoffs. We have a very good team that is exciting to watch. We look forward to meeting UVSC. They will be looking for us.
"In the fall we defeated them 35-0," Eddings said. "So we know we will have to be ready for them and we will be."
