The summer air is fast approaching, but there is no time to take in the roses just yet. Enrollment for Fall 2005 is upon students, and they are to be equipped. By the end of the month, the ISU student body will be preparing for their next year's schedules. With the improvements to the University taking place all around (structurally and academically), there is great incentive to embrace next year with studious diligence.

Registration for next year's seniors (90+ credits) will open on April 15th, when many will become entangled with the task of filing taxes at the last minute and constructing their most significant class schedule to date. Juniors (58+) start registration on the 19th, Sophomores (26+) on the 21st, and Freshman (0-25) will register on the 25th. In-person registration will take place at the Office of Registration and Records in the Idaho Museum of Natural History Building on the 2nd floor, room 319 (282-2661). Their office hours are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be extended evening hours Monday from 5 to 6:30 p.m. On-line registration through the ISU portal is also available.

In order to avoid pitfalls in class scheduling and academic life, students of every class level are strongly encouraged to seek academic advising during registration.

"I would recommend it," said academic advisor Dustin Robinson. "Just to get help, just to go over it with someone."

Robinson also warned students of some of the unforeseen consequences of blindly creating their schedules.

"You need to avoid taking unnecessary classes," Robinson said. "Get into classes you know you want to get into."

Talking to an advisor is crucial for reasons outside of the academic spectrum as well. Students are encouraged to create a schedule that, as Robinson put it, will "balance you life."

Robinson suggests "watching your time" and making comfortable room for school work, a job, and for the social aspect of college. So as to avoid "burnout, take the right steps to be a successful student."

Robinson's also gave advice to take advantage of ISU's many campus resources.

"The tutors, learning center, counseling, student organizations..." Robinson said as he listed the many organizations. "All of these things are here to help."

Next fall's curriculum will include a few new experimental courses that students can look forward too as well. Anthropology 433- Survey of living Primates, will be offered on Wednesdays, 7 to 10:00 p.m. History 307- Early North America, will be offered Monday and Wednesday from 2 to 3:15 p.m. A few new Physical Education Activity classes are also available, PEAC 299- Gyrokinesis Yoga (T,TH 12-12:55 p.m.), Target Fit Condition Workout (four class-time options), and Handball (T, TH 4:30-6 p.m.) will all be offered next fall. As most classes have a limited amount of room, students are encouraged to meet with an academic advisor soon and to register promptly.
