As a local band in Pocatello it's often difficult to receive exposure and recognition.

Not a lot of opportunities are available local bands to build a fan base because there are not many big events that feature local bands. That is about to change for Pocatello's Kasparov. They will play in KISU's fifth annual Really Big Show Friday, April 22, 6:00 p.m. in the Bengal Café.

Kasparov, comprised of the Petersen brothers, Jordan and Jeremy, along with Andy Lilly will kick off the show. They are all stoked and ready for the show.

"Seems like this year there are going to be a lot of bands from different areas," Jeremy Petersen said about the rest of the bands playing in the show.

The band is happy to be invited to play at the event and have some exposure. Kasparov will be playing with another local band , In Romeo's Defense.

Along with the two local bands playing at the Really Big Show there will be five bands brought in from other cities.  From Salt Lake City there will be I am Electric and The Rubes. Traveling from Missoula is Beat Upheaval, best described as dub-reggae. And from Nampa is The Invasion, who opened for The Pixies April 25, 2004.

Jamie Bailey and his co-workers at KISU have worked hard putting the fifth annual Really Big Show Together.  Bailey, who has been chiefly in charge of booking and arrangements for the show, hosts the regular weekend radio programs called Dance Hall Revival and ForeWard. He became the organizer of the show after the graduation of the former Really Big Show organizer.

"Most of the Bands don't have booking agents, so you have to track them down," Bailey said.

Bailey began planning The Really Big Show in early December. After a lot of phone tag and sponsor hunting, Bailey has got the plans for the event squared away and all the elements are coming together nicely to create a great show.

The Really Big Show will have no cover charge thanks to the local sponsors. Sponsors including Michelle's City Lights, Club Charley's, The College Market, Heart 'n Soul Tattoo, Final Table and others. There are 11 sponsors in all.

According to Bailey, this year at the Really Big show, musical styles will range from Radio Head inspired indie rock to Chuck Berry influenced sound.
