Bengal track takes seven titles in Logan, Utah
Ben Layman earns title and qualifies for the NCAA Regional Championships with a high jump of 6-10.75

LOGAN, Utah - The Idaho State track and field teams came away with seven collective titles Saturday at the Mark Faldo Track and Field Invitational in Logan, Utah. Along with Idaho State, there were various other schools and independent athletes competing at the invitational, including host Utah State, Utah, Weber State, Brigham Young University and Westminster College.
The Idaho State men recorded three titles, four second-place finishes and five third-place finishes at the invitational. Ben Layman's leap of 6-10.75 in the high jump qualifies him for the NCAA Regional Championships and earned him a title in Logan. Troy Wassink added a title, winning the javelin throw with a Big Sky qualifying distance of 191-10. Senior Joe Perdue also took home a title in the 3,000 meter steeplechase, crossing the finish line in 9:30.95.
Sophomore Erik Whittsit also had a notable performance, topping his previous season-best in the shot put with a throw of 55-10.25, good for second place in Logan. Levi Keller cleared the pole-vault bar at 15-01, also a season best. That mark earned him a second-place finish at the invitational and moved him into second place in the Big Sky, behind Montana State's Thomas Seely, who has a mark of 15-02 in the pole vault.
The Idaho State women also had success, taking four titles, five second-place finishes and four third-place finishes in Logan. Audra Smith placed first in the 100-meter dash, finishing in 12.33 seconds, a Big Sky Championships qualifying time. Echo Schneider also qualified for the Big Sky Championships with a title in the javelin with a throw of 130-02. Sophomore thrower Jessica Cornia took the title in the shot put with a mark of 43-03.75 and the Idaho State 4x100 meter relay team finished in first place at the invitational with a time of 48:27, both season bests.
Senior Solana Kline placed second in the pole vault with a season-best mark of 11-11.75, the second-best mark in the Big Sky this season. Junior Tiffany Anderson finished in second place in the 200-meters in a season-best time of 25.12, moving her into third place in the Big Sky.
The Bengals will return to action Wednesday, April 20 when they travel to Provo, Utah to participate in the Robison Invitational, hosted by Brigham Young University.
