The ISU Bengals finished their season with an eighth place nationally after competing in the the Elite 8 this past weekend.
"I think the experience was great for our players and program," said head coach Ram Eddings. "We lost to the number #1 ranked team Georgetown 49-19.
The Bengals had some great opportunities to make the game very close, but just couldn't finish the deal.
"I felt our scrum out played Georgetown's scrum," Eddings said. "However when we made a mistake they were very good at capitalizing on them."
The Bengals pressured with some good movements showing they can play with the best in the country.
"We were down by 15 points with 20 minutes left in the first half and came back to within five by half time," Eddings said."
ISU did better in the the second half, but again, mistakes served as there biggest opponent. To beat a team of Georgetown's caliber ISU had to play a game free of mistakes.
The Bengals took another loss on Sunday to Point Loma. ISU just couldn't get anything going. Again too many mistakes. "They were not as strong as Georgetown, we just could not get it going," Eddings said.
Five times ISU made it inside Point Loma's 10 meter line and couldn't finish with a score due to mistakes.
All in all the trip went well and the Bengals learned much from the experience.
"It was the big time and you could feel it all weekend long," Eddings said.
The Bengals return 13 players for next year. All 13 had the opportunity to experience high level rugby.
"They know what will be required to return next year," Eddings said. "I am proud of this team and the player's ability to never give up and keep ISU Rugby moving forward."
The Bengals will play their only home match this spring against an all-star team comprised of players from Park City, Utah, Sun Valley, Idaho, and Jackson, Wyoming.
