Thumbs up to ISU's SAVE organization for putting on yet another spectacular Earth Week celebration. The attendance easily surpassed that of last years. Besides the live music of the Clumsy Lovers, who always move the Pocatello community, this celebration involved camping out on ISU's Quadrangle, a "no trace campfire," a Critical Mass Bike ride, activites for children and much more. But most of all, this event helped raise much needed awareness about the earth we all live on, and recognition that it's everyone's responsiblity to take care of the earth.
Thumbs down to the State Board of Education for approving a four-year contract of ISU head football coach Larry Lewis.
This approval is not only the longest contract in Idaho State University athletics history but will also keep Larry Lewis at the helm of the football program until 2008. Seriously, what has Lewis done to deserves this approval. Along with the difficulty of producing victories these past few years, Lewis also has a lackluster disciplinary program regarding the Universitie's football team. The numbers speak for themselves, he has a below .500 winning percentage. Good thing we now pay him more for that.
Thumbs up to Jaime Bailey and the rest of KISU 91.1 for hosting the KISU Really Big Show, Friday night in the Bengal Cafe. The show featured two home town bands, in Kasparov and In Romeo's Defense. Others included bands from Missoula, Salt Lake City and Nampa.
Thumbs up to LGBTSA for putting on the drag show, Friday night in the PSUB Ballroom. It is good to see such open-minded events in such a conservative natured community.
Thumbs up to Solana Kline and Paul Hoffman for qualifyiing for the NCAA Regional Championships after their performance at the Clarence Robinson Invitational hosted at Brigham Young University. Kline and Hoffman join Erik Whittset and Ben Layman in qualifiying for the NCAA Regionals.
Thumbs up to the ISU Japanese Club for serving up great food and entertainment in the first Cherry Blossom Festival of the clubs short history. For an organization created only last fall semester the event was well attended, exceeding all expectations. What we think, the highlight of the event goes to Taiko Idaho for putting on a thunderous drum show.
