The roster has undergone major changes with only two experienced players returning along with two returning redshirts. The
team is already growing together to learn how to play as a team.
"I look forward to surprising everyone and winning the Big Sky," says senior Chelsey Chambers. "Though we lost a lot of players, our team
will be hard to beat."
Chambers is the lone returning senior for the Bengals. The 6-0 post averaged over five points and snatched nearly three rebounds a game last season. With a great deal of experience, she will be a leadership figure for this team.
"The difference with our team from last year is our passers," says Chambers. "Our point guards can push the ball down the floor really well."
Also returning to the team is 2005 Big Sky Freshman of the year, Natalie Doma. Last year this 6-3 center scored 11.4 points and brought down 5.8 rebounds a contest.
A guard to watch for this year is Andrea Lightfoot. After transferring from Nebraska, she redshirted last season. She played 28 games for Nebraska before joining the Bengals and will likely start for ISU due to her priceless experience.
Danica Boyce also redshirted last for medical reasons. Standing at 6-1, this freshman forward will add some depth in the paint. She is expected to make large contributions to the team.
The most intriguing addition to the team may be Ali Gorny, who is making a transition from the volleyball team. Gorny will be a strong defender under the basket. She played four seasons with the ISU volleyball team and will use her talents to block shots and on the boards.
The Bengals are excited about their four new freshmen: Jenna Brown, Sandra Dziurdzia, Michelle Grohs, and Emily Zygmontowicz. Standing at 5-3, Brown is the shortest player on the squad, but will be a challenger for the starting point guard spot.
Dziurzia comes to ISU all the way from Germany. Playing both guard and forward, she will bring a lot of versatility to the Bengals.
Grohs is an Idaho native, coming from Salmon. Along with her 6'1 frame comes athletic ability and offensive skill.
Zygmontowicz comes from Washington where she averaged 13 points and 2.8 assists per game last year. Her ability to shoot and handle the ball will be welcomed assets to the Bengals. Two new recruits, Johanna Hixon and Jeni Boesel, are welcomed to ISU with high hopes. Hixon comes in as a transfer from the College of Southern Idaho. Boesel, a 5-9 guard out of North Idaho is a promising outside shooter with 72 three-point field goals last season on her way to 16.7 points per game.
Boesel says, "I'm so excited to play with the team. With only two returning players, it is fun to grow together as a new team. This year, we will kick butt."
