Middle Eastern stereotypes and issues that are currently being discussed about the Middle East will be the focus of this weeks "Middle East Week", sponsored by the ISU's Middle East Studies Club.

The Middle East Studies Club has been discussing issues involving this vital part of the world for the last 4 years. Its members are composed of ISU students majoring in Foreign Languages, History, Political Science, Anthropology, and even Education. The Middle East Studies Club's mission is to increase awareness about Middle Eastern issues while at the same time promoting tolerance for its people.

Besides discussing Middle East issues on campus, the Middle East Studies Club also participates with the National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations and their Model Arab League.

The Model Arab League is a student leadership program that allows both High School and University students to learn about the politics and history of the Arab World while at the same time using skills of diplomacy and public speaking. Students who participate in the Model Arab League walk away having learned more about the politics, culture and economic issues surrounding this region. ISU's Middle East Studies Club will be attending both the Salt Lake City and Missoula, MT Model Arab Leagues this semester.

They are currently seeking ISU students to attend. The HIST 339-02 class for spring is offering training for the Model Arab League events. Students can still sign up for this 3 credit course. This class also serves as the clubs current meeting time. The class and club are open to any student of any major.

For more information about the class or the Model Arab League contact the ISU History department at 282-2379. More information about the National Council on U.S.-Arab Relations and their Model Arab League can be found at www.ncusar.org/modelarableague.
