This competitive athlete is one of the leaders on the team, doing what he loves to do, and helping the mens basketball team pull off 7 wins so far this season.
Basketball wasn't David's only passion in high school. He lettered three years in not only basketball, but in football and track as well. Schroeder was named A-2 Player of the Year in both basketball, and football.
David won three A-2 state championships running hurdles in track. He owns the A-2 state record in both the 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles.
When asked who his idol was, Schroeder did not hesitate to answer, "Michael Jordan, it will be forever."
Two of David's sisters played college ball, one at Villanova and the other at Colby College. With MJ as his idol and his sisters' examples to follow, choosing to continue with basketball in college was an easy decision for David.
"Athletics were an every day part of me and they were fun," Schroeder said. "It was natural for me to want to play in college."
ISU wanted him to come play ball for the Bengals and he has contributed his many talents to the team ever since.
Another not-so-known talent that David enjoys is cooking. He loves grilling and marinating all sorts of yummy meals. One of his specialties is a delicious grilled honey-mustard Salmon.
Along with playing basketball and cooking salmon, Schroeder has also done well in college, graduating in business management. Now, he is in pursuit of a graduate degree in finance. He also wishes to someday travel out of the United States to the beautiful country of New Zealand.
"I have seen pictures and heard stories and it sounds absolutely gorgeous," he said. "I hope to have the opportunity to vacation there sometime soon."
Believe it or not, this athlete does have a phobia. A lightheaded and physically sick illness comes over David every time he has to confront his fear of needles.
"I have never liked needles and I avoid them at all costs," he said.
David likes to keep track of the latest races in NASCAR and the NFL playoffs. He enjoys watching the cars travel at incredible speeds as they zoom around the track. Jeff Gordon is the favorite pick over all the other drivers.
With the Superbowl coming up, Schroeder predicts that the Denver Broncos will take the championship because of their outstanding season so far and their upcoming promise.
"Overall, I like the competitiveness of our team," Schroeder said about the Bengal's men's basketball team. "I know we can make it to conference and I would like to come home with the trophy."
The next opportunity to watch David Schroeder and the rest of the men's team will be in Reed Gym on January 25 against South Dakota State.
