Coming off a big 89-68 win over Eastern Washington, the women's basketball team fell 93-80 to Portland State Saturday at Reed Gym.
With the loss the Bengals fall to 8-10 on the season and 2-2 in Big Sky Conference action. Portland State improves to 7-9 and 1-2.
Down just two points at the half, the Bengals could not get on track in the second half.
"I think we played back on our heels in the second half," Andrea Lightfoot said. "We played timid and got too far behind."
Lightfoot scored 13 points on 4-11 shooting while picking up two rebounds, three assists and a steal. Natalie Doma led the Bengals with 22 points on 8-19 shooting, as well as pulling down a team high 11 rebounds.
The Bengals took a one point lead early in the second half, but then Portland State took control of the game, building the lead to 15 at one point.
The Vikings came out of the gate shooting the ball well and continued to do so all game long. They shot a red hot 60.6% in the first half and finished the game at 55.2% from the field. The Vikings took advantage of the charity stripe as well, knocking down 22 of 24 free throw attempts.
While the Vikings were on fire, the Bengals couldn't buy a bucket in the second half as they hit on just 36.7% from the floor and a measly 60% from the line.
It was a much different Bengal team that took the floor earlier in the week against Eastern Washington. Natalie Doma scored a season high 28 points and the Bengals also got help from Lightfoot with 18 points and Daniac Boyce added 16. Jeni Boesel had a solid game as well pitching in 11 points, 7 rebounds, and 6 assists.
ISU shot the ball well against the Eagles from everywhere on the court. The Bengals hit 50% from behind the arc and nearly 80% from the free throw line. ISU also connected on 54.4% from the field.
The Bengals will now hit the road as they travel down to Utah to face the Weber State Wildcats on January 26.0
