Letter to the Editor : KISU CLARIFICATION NEEDED

Issue date: 2/1/06 Section: Opinion

In light of the recent discourse between KISU FM 91.1 and former "Sweet Sounds" host Collin Miller, the need for clarification about the KISU press release seems appropriate. The KISU press release issued on Jan 14th regarding the show "Sweet Sounds" was printed by both the Bengal and the Idaho State Journal, in it a bi-line was entered as being written by ISU University Relations. However, ISU University Relations was not the author of the press release, Jerry Miller wrote the press release. Miller writes that Collin resigned one week before departure from the show and this is untrue. Collin put in a four-week notice. Another inaccuracy in the press release states that "Sweet Sounds" was to be replaced by NPR's "Fresh Air" until a replacement host could be found for "Sweet Sounds". This should have read that Collin Miller and the show "Sweet Sounds" was being replaced by Collin Miller and the show "Sweet Sounds". KISU began running Collin's old shows last week. KISU plans on running the archived program for at least the rest of the month. The press release also states that "nearly 20 hours a week of locally-produced programming" is on the air. If 12 equaled "nearly 20" than this last statement would be true. Lastly, Collin's name was misspelled 3 times in the 280 word press release and is STILL currently being misspelled on the KISU website.

Sincerely,

Melissa Cisneros
