The men's ISU rugby club lost their first match of the spring, 35-0, against Utah State on Saturday February 11.
Despite the lopsided score, ISU coach Ram Eddings saw some good signs from his team.
"I thought the team played well against the experience of the Utah State team," Eddings said.
The Bengals played well in the first half, holding the Aggies to 10 points. However, ISU couldn't get it going after halftime.
"We have a lot of inexperience on our team this year, but the potential is great," Eddings said. "I am excited about our opportunity."
The conference has changed the playoff system this spring to a tournament format. This means that the Bengals still have plenty of time to prepare for a shot at the playoffs. The tournament will be held on March 25 and Eddings is optimistic about the team's chances.
"I think we still have an excellent opportunity to make the playoffs if we work hard," he said. "We will have several games prior to the tournament."
The men's and women's rugby teams are both scheduled to play in Boise on February 25. Both teams are low in numbers and encourage students interested in playing to come out. The season has begun but it is not too late to join the team.
Practices are held at 6:00 am at Bartz Field. For more information, contact Ram Eddings, Coach at 282-3242.
