"It's hysterical and it's free," Intramural Director Shelby Williams said. "I want to get people to try it."
This modified kickball game is played with a fun twist. The rules of the game are simple.
The game is played in a basketball court with six players on a team. On the defensive team there is a pitcher, a catcher, and four others who try to get the opposing players out. On offense there is a kicker, a pusher, and a rider.
The pitcher rolls the ball to the kicker. The ball must not lose contact with the floor during the pitch or there is a penalty. Only two pitches are thrown to each kicker before the kicker strikes out, no exceptions.
A neutral zone is designated for the pitcher to pitch were no other defensive players can stand. A kick in the neutral zone is considered a foul ball and a strike.
After the kicker smacks the ball, the pusher pushes a teammate who is riding the scooter to a hula-hoop directly in front of home plate.
There are only two bases in the game of scooter ball. The rider must place a foot or some body part inside the hula hoop to be safe. Each rider that a pusher can get back to home plate earns the team one point.
There are three outs to an inning, just like kickball. Outs can be achieved when the rider, not the pusher, gets hit with the ball. After each kick the rider, kicker, and pusher must all interchange positions.
The last day to find a team and sign up is Wednesday, February 22. There is no fee to pay and it's a game that everyone can come and enjoy.
