Track Team Preps for Indoor Championships

Pocatello, ID - The Idaho State track and field team will take a week off from competition before traveling to Flagstaff, Ariz. for the Big Sky Conference Indoor Championships on February 24 and 25 hosted by Northern Arizona University. The men look to defend their 2005 championship while the women look to improve on their third place 2005 finish.

With one week of competitions remaining before the championships the Bengals sit well in the conference. For the women, ISU has 14 athletes automatically qualified for 24 events in the Big Sky Championships, while seven athletes are currently provisionally qualified in nine events. The Bengal women also have four athletes who are just outside of the top-12 qualifiers who could be wild carded into the championships. ISU's women have also qualified both their 4x400-meter relay and Distance Medley Relay teams which currently rank fifth and second, respectively.

For the men, the Bengals have 16 athletes who have automatically qualified for the Big Sky Championships in 27 events, while 12 men are currently provisionally qualified in 13 events. The Bengals also have 4 men who are just outside of the top-12 qualifiers but may earn the chance to be wild carded into the championships.

The Bengals currently have three men ranked first in the conference in addition to both the 4x400-meter relay and Distance Medley Relays ranking first. The Bengals also boast one NCAA Provisional Qualifier, John Danielson, who has thrown 58 feet, 6 1/2 inches to surpass the qualifying mark of 58 feet, 3 inches.

The Bengals have three competitions remaining in their indoor season, the Big Sky Championships February 24-25, the Intermountain Championships at Holt Arena March 3-4, and the NCAA National Indoor Championships on March 10-11 for those who qualify.
