Public Safety Operations Manager Terrilee Hancock says there are two different ways a ticket can be appealed. An appeal can be filed through the public safety website, www.isu.edu/pubsafe, under Parking Information. Students can also pick up form from the public safety office. But this must all be done within seven business days of issuance of the ticket.
But, of course, the appeal may be denied.
"If it is appealed within three days and the appeals committee denies it, you still get the half off that you do if you pay within three days," Hancock said in an email. "You have to come in within three days of when you received notification that the appeal was denied."
The appeals committee meets once a week and is made up of ASISU appointed students. This committee holds appeal meetings once week. Hancock says they usually read about 10 to 15 appeals.
"At the beginning of each semester, there are usually more appeals," Hancock said.
But does the seven business day policy give students enough time to appeal a ticket? Hancock says it does-as long as the committee keeps up.
"The times for meeting seem to be adequate as long as they meet each week and stay caught up," Hancock said.
Hancock says she has tips for students to better ensure they receive an appeal. First, be honest.
"Your parking record is attached to the appeal form for the committee to review," Hancock said. "They will know if you have already had warning for the same violation so don't say 'I didn't know,' unless you really didn't know."
Second, Hancock says having courtesy will better your chances with the committee.
"Also, be polite and just address the issue, not what you think of the parking office, ticket writers, the appeals committee, and ISU in general," Hancock said. "It is a lot easier to want to give someone a second chance when they are not be-rating and belittling you in person or in writing."
