Last Saturday marked the first outdoor meet for the ISU's men's and women's track team. Mother Nature presented an April Fool's of her own with hail and rain that cut the track meet short.

The men's side showed a strong performance winning two of the three team duals. Nathan Capps, Dmitry Beresnev, and Brad Silvester; they ran times of 15.70, 15.75, and 16.06 in the 110 meter hurdles taking fifth, sixth and seventh. In the 400 meter hurdles, sprinter Jon DelBosque placed second over all with a time of 55.27.

Matt Brown placed third in the 400-meter dash clocking a time of 49.10 while also placing ninth with a time of 22.53 in the 200-meter dash to finish the event as the top Bengal. In the 100-meter dash, ISU's top runner was Ryan Dick placing ninth with a time of 11.24.

When asked about the transition from indoor to outdoor track, Nathan Capps said, "I think this first track meet was a good adjuster from indoor to outdoor. In outdoors there's a different feel for the new events that aren't offered in indoor. Some of the events are longer and it was a good meet to get a feel for the adjustments that we have to make."

Saheed Khan won both the 800-meter run and the 1,600-meter run clocking times of 1:54.38 and 4:03.40. Kol Henrikson placed second in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:55.27. Freshman Keane Shuler took third in the 1,600-meter run clocking a 4:08.46. Nothing could distract Shuler and Landen Teeter who placed second and fifth in the 5,000-meter run, finishing their events despite the numbing wind and hail. Their times clocked at 15:03.19 and 16:25.87, respectively.

Ben Layman won the long jump with a mark of 22-6.25 and took second in the high jump clearing 6-10.75. Peter Komendant took third in the long jump with a leap of 22-3. Levi Keller took third in the high jump clearing 6-6.25.

Many of the upper classman on the women's side have chosen to red-shirt. Despite their few numbers, the women's side preformed well. Christina Brown won the long jump with a mark of 17-9.75. In the pole vault, Katie Williams and Kasie Scott placed third and sixth with a jump of 11-2.50 inches, qualifying them for conference.
