Martin Baker
Issue date: 4/19/06 Section: Life
After a full year of unrelenting and dedication, Karen Kearns, Head of Special Collections and Archives has brought together more than 150 highly detailed, historical photographs of Bannock County history within the click of your mouse.
The photos, ranging in age, with some dating back over a hundred years, depict a setting that almost seems foreign compared the land we now call our home. The project was funded by a grant from the Idaho Humanities Council and the images were produced through the joint partnership of Idaho State University Library Special Collections Department, the Bannock County Historical Society in Pocatello, and the South Bannock County Historical Center in Lava Hot Springs.
Some of the pictures on display portray locations in Southeast Idaho nearly a hundred years ago. From pictures of early Arthur Avenue to Alameda Road, and even the Center Street overpass (before the underpass was ever dreamed up, there was a road over the tracks. You can also find the Academy of Idaho's football team picture from 1902 or a picture of the 1965 Pocatello Dodgers.
The photographs are available through the ISU Special Collections webpages and can be browsed and searched at http://isudigital.cdmhost.com or by clicking on its respective headline, Bannock County Images, on the ISU Library's homepage.
