I.F. President-Elect has big plans

Noah House ; I.F. President-Elect

Issue date: 4/19/06 Section: News
As the Idaho Falls Vice President-Elect, I found it very interesting that some of the issues I addressed during my campaign would be considered an unrealistic promise. An unrealistic promise would be espousing that Mountain Dew would flow from the water fountains once I was elected. We're not in high school anymore, though. Don't let anyone kid you about the following, because they are only kidding themselves if they think these cannot be accomplished.

Competition for the bookstore. There are many alternatives to paying out the yang for required books. One of my main focuses will be putting an online textbook exchange in place for Idaho Falls students.

Administration accessibility. The structure of the Idaho Falls campus administration is not clear to most students, though it already should be. The names and contact info of all staff will be made readily available. I am working closely with Ches Barnes, the Bennion Student Union Director, on this.

Better presence by the student government. Idaho Falls students are oftentimes hard-pressed to name members of the current campus government, let alone those who represent their respective colleges on the Senate. Once my term starts, student government officers will be clearly visible throughout the week. In addition, President-Elect Ryan Sargent and I have committed to bringing not only Presidential meetings, but a few Senate meetings to the I.F. campus, as well.

Campus news. The Bengal does not know what happens on the I.F. campus. That is easily taken care of with the appointed position of Student Involvement Coordinator actually performing one of their responsibilities as the primary contact for The Bengal. Maria Alvarez is coming into that position, and I have full faith that she will handle that and her other responsibilities in an exemplary fashion.

Campus programming. Unfortunately, this is going to be my weakest area. I will rely heavily on my appointed Program Board to ensure events on our campus are quality events. We have an excellent Program Board Coordinator by the name of Jessi Bennett who will be tasked with this. She has a phenomenal pair of committee members, Jackie Yeiter and Jimmy Young, who are going to be valuable assets to have on board to make this happen.
