Well, sports fans it's time for the seventh inning stretch again. It's baseball time once again and the men's club baseball team is under way here at ISU. For a club that is just in its second year since returning to ISU, they are making leaps and bounds.

ISU is officially part of the National Club Baseball Association (NCBA), which spans the United States and is divided into conferences. The Bengals happen to fall in the Western Mountain South Conference, which consists of 4 teams, Weber State, Boise State, Utah State and ISU.

The club kicked off their season with a meeting in January and have been going full steam ahead ever since. The baseball club team has a 14-man roster.

With the exception of Jon Lausen, from Beulah, North Dakota, they are all home grown Idahoans. They recently acquired a head coach by the name of Willie Harris.

Many of the players have previous collegiate baseball experience. Club President, C.T. Seaberg previously played at junior colleges in Montana and North Dakota.

The team practices roughly three times a week and plays games on Saturday and Sunday. They will complete a schedule of about 20 games in the beginning of May. Then if they win the regional conference championship they'll have a chance to play at the national level.

For the guys like Seaberg, it's good to be playing baseball again.

"Actually getting to play baseball again is the best part," Seaberg said. "Some of us have had the opportunity to play at junior colleges and just being able to play on a team again is good. We have pretty good team chemistry. We players all get along really well."

Currently, Weber State leads the conference with a 4-0 record. ISU is playing .500 ball and sits in second place with a 2-2 record. Utah State trails close behind with a 2-3 start on the season and Boise State finds itself in last place with a 1-4 record.

Last weekend the Bengals came off victorious as they beat the Aggies of Utah State in three of four games. This week the Bengals will host Weber State here in Pocatello.

The "roster freeze" date has passed which means no one can be added to this year's roster. However, fall baseball will start back up in the first couple weeks of September.
