The Pond Student Union is one of the many places on campus that offers opportunity to be involved in student activites.

College offers many opportunities for student involvement, ranging from clubs and organizations to sports and volunteer work. The possibilities are virtually endless. With more than 100 different clubs and organization, it is likely you will find something at ISU to suit your tastes. If ISU doesn't already offer an organization in your area of interest, you could always create something new.

Extracurricular activities are a great way to meet people with similar interests, obtain a new perspective, learn teamwork, show off your leadership skills and participate in your community. The IDEA (Individual Development through Educational Activities) Program offers many of these opportunities to students along with developmental structure. The IDEA Program will also help you build an impressive transcript of activities. For more information visit them on the web at http://www.isu.edu/stdorg/idea/ or call 282-3451.

The Students' Community Service Center (SCSC) welcomes all students interested in volunteering, and offers a multitude of special service projects. The SCSC's focus isn't restricted to campus either. They have many opportunities for involvement in the community beyond campus as well. The SCSC also provides assistance with starting a new organization. You can contact The SCSC at 282-4201 or on the web at http://www.isu.edu/union/community. Offices for both the IDEA Program and the SCSC are located within the Student Leadership and Involvement Center on the third floor of the Pond Student Union Building.

The Janet C. Anderson Gender Resource Center also welcomes all students, and encourages everyone to explore, become aware and maintain an open dialogue about gender. The Center not only sponsors many gender awareness events, but also offers an array of positive opportunities for fun and learning.

The M.E.N.'s (Men Encouraging Non-violence) Group educates and promotes the positive aspects of non-violence. Women's Issues and Sexual Empowerment, better known as W.I.S.E., is driven to help women ages 18 to 40 make healthier relationship choices. The center also features an advocacy program, Project Hope. Project Hope seeks to assist and offer support to all members of ISU, including faculty and staff, who are afflicted by relationship violence, stalking, sexual assault or other crimes. You can find out more about the Center by calling 282-2805 or at http://www.isu.edu/andersoncenter. You can reach the Project Hope Crisis Line at 282-HOPE.

Further information on academic clubs and organizations can be obtained at http://www.isu.edu/current-clubs.shtml.

Limitless opportunities are available at ISU, all of which are designed to benefit you, the student. As Woodrow Wilson remarked, "The mind does not live for instruction. The real intellectual life…manifests itself, not in the classroom, but in what they [students] do and talk of and set before themselves as their favorite object between classes and lecture." Learning and life both occur beyond the classroom, and your experience at ISU should take full advantage of the opportunities both inside and outside the classroom.
