Monday they introduced themselves to students, with snow cones in hand. On Tuesday, Sargent and Brown accompanied the newly appointed ISU President, Dr. Vailas, as he gave his Presidential Address. Wednesday was a day to explore the big white tent and discover a few of the organizations and clubs that exist on campus. On Thursday, "The Rubes" played for students who stood in line, awaiting savory nachos. Finally Friday rolled around and the newly elected pair could be found cheering on the girls soccer team as they played Utah State of Davis Field.
"ASISU plays a huge part in student's lives," Ryan Sargent said. So whether you are part of a Greek society, a volunteer organization, or an academic association, you're experiencing the inner workings of ASISU.
Ryan Sargent is a junior majoring in Political Science. One of the things that he is most excited about the upcoming year is that a new ASISU Constitution is in the drafting phase to replace the previous one, which is over 30-years-old and was only amended once back in 1991. Some other things that are in the works for this upcoming year are two major changes. The first change will be happing within the Student Government with a Finance Committee reform. The second change is suppressing the political aspect of the Program Board so that changes within the Program Board, can be virtually stress-free-something that should come as a welcome change from last year's problems.
"ASISU is really here to serve the students," Jennifer Brown said in a recent interview. "It provides programs like the Bengal Newspaper, the Program Board, Family Planning, and also distributes some funding for clubs."
Vice President, Jennifer Brown, also a junior, who is double majoring in Business Management and Philosophy, has had a very busy summer. She was a member of the Welcome Week committee and even sat on a couple of President Vailas's Cabinet Meetings. As a freshman, she was on the Elections Board Committee, later receiving a promotion to the Chair. Then, in the 2005-2006 year, she advertised often for the Program Board and coordinated last year's ISU Idol.
"It's going to be a great year for changes and a great year for improvement," said Sargent. With all the new changes and fresh faces, it certainly is going to be a great year. For all students who are looking to get involved this year, feel free to contact Jennifer Brown or Ryan Sargent, whose offices can be found in the Hypostyle, the sky-bridge that connects the PSUB and the Museum Building.
