The first week of a new school year means that its time to make my predictions for the end of the year awards.
I've got a lot of awards to give out so let's get down to business. Naturally, the ladies will go first.
Bengal Dancers
Bengal Dancer Newcomer of the Year - Lana Robinson
She danced for a professional soccer team in Australia and the NBA's Portland Trail Blazers. That's good enough for me.
Bengal Dancer Showmanship Award - Whitney Smith
Speaking as someone who has no idea what I'm talking about, I'll take last year's winner.
Bengal Dancer Career Achievement Award - Amy Taylor
It's her fourth year on the squad. She is far and away the most experienced. Take this one to the bank.
Bengal Dancer of the Year - Devri Ellis
She was last year's Newcomer of the Year. She takes the next step this year.
ISU Cheer Squad
Cheerleading Newcomer of the Year - Carly Armijo
She played on the golf team in high school. That gets my vote.
Cheerleading Most Improved Award - Rozalynn Eaton
It's got to be someone in their first year on the squad. Why not Rozalynn?
Cheerleading Teamwork Award - Dananda Hancock
After using a complex formula to narrow it down to the final two Dananda gets the nod over Liz Belliston thanks to a 4-3 victory in a best-of-seven coin toss.
Cheerleader of the Year - Katie Standley
Started out as Newcomer of the Year, and then became a co-captain of the squad, and now Cheerleader of the Year.
Men's Basketball
Bengal Pride: Matt Stucki
This Pocatello native should see his playing time increase in his sophomore season. He is tenacious and scrappy, and does a little of everything.
Most Improved Player: John Ofoegbu
NCAA regulations forced him to sit out all of last season after transferring to ISU from Texas Tech. Anything he does will be an improvement over sitting out.
