ISU spirit squad, at it again

Bengal Dancers Take First Place at NDA Dance Camp

Anaheim, CA --- The Bengal Dancers were awarded first place Team Dance and the NDA Best All-Around Award as the ISU Spirit Squad competed at the National Dance Alliance (NDA and the National Cheerleading Association (NCA) collegiate summer camps held in Anaheim, California.
This was the Bengal Dancers sixth time and the ISU Cheerleaders third time attending the camp.
The Bengal Dancers, who were attending the camp for the sixth time, had four NDA Collegiate All-Americans. Four-time recipient and four-year squad member Amy Taylor of Rexburg was honored, as was two-time recipient and second-year squad member Whitney Smith of Pocatello. Taylor is serving as this year's captain.
Devri Ellis of Pocatello and Michelle Johnson of Idaho Falls were both honored for the first time. Newcomer Lana Robinson of Raymond, Washington, received the NDA Top Gun Hip Hop Award.
The ISU Cheerleaders also did well, placing first in Game Day, second in Fight Song, and earning NCA Best All-Around Award and the NCA Team Work Award. Kassilina Tankersley of Pocatello, a second year squad member, was named an NCA Collegiate All-American, the first in ISU history.
The ISU Spirit Squad coaching staff received the NCA/NDA Collegiate Program Development Award for the third straight year. The award is voted on by the NCA/NDA staff and given to the school that is
developing a successful cheer and dance program throughout all
aspects of collegiate cheer and dance.
The ISU Spirit Squad is under the direction of Hilary Hofmaier, who is also the head coach of the Bengal Dancers for a seventh season. The cheerleaders are coached by Dax Cox and Lindsay Tucker


assists the Bengal Dancers, both for their second season.
The ISU Bengal Dancers and Cheerleaders both received partial paid bids to NCA/NDA Collegiate Nationals held in Daytona Beach, Florida in April 2007. The Bengal


Dancers finished second at NDA College Nationals in 2005 and 2006 and have been nationally ranked in the top ten for the past seven years. The ISU Cheerleaders finished second at USA College Nationals in Las Vegas in 2006, competing for the first time in ISU history.


The Bengal Dancers are looking to fill one open spot and the Cheerleaders are looking to fill
