ISU Volleyball Wraps Up Chippewa Classic with 3-0 Loss to Central Michigan, Finish Tournament with 2-1 Record - Gurney, Collette Named to All-Tourny Team
Pocatello, ID-Idaho State's two-match win streak came to a hault Saturday evening as the Bengals dropped a 3-0 decision to host Central Michigan in the championship match of the Super 8 Chippewa Classic in Mount Pleasant, Michigan.
Idaho State took a 3-2 win over Wisconsin-Green Bay before defeating Indiana State 3-0 to position itself to win the tournament title. Despite the loss to Central Michigan on Saturday evening, Idaho State heads home with a 2-1 record to open the season.
"Coming back home with a 2-1 record is a step in a positive direction, but it is not what we had expected to come home with," said ISU head coach Mike Welch. "We expected to win all three matches and we are disappointed that we didn't, but we are coming home knowing that we were very capable of returning to Pocatello with three wins."
Central Michigan defeated ISU 30-19 in game one before ISU kept it close in game two, losing only by four, 30-26. The Chippewas then secured the match with a 30-21 win in game three.

She was notable at the net, collecting her 12 kills on 27 attacks with only four errors. Nikki Havens followed with nine kills, while Emily Waldron added six kills with 12 digs.
"Our upperclassmen played very well," Welch said. "They were composed and showed that championship demeanor on the floor. Central Michigan played outstanding volleyball tonight."
Christine Collette fronted ISU with a 28 assists, coupled with seven digs in the effort.
As a team, Idaho State recorded a .182 hitting percentage compared to CMU's .300 mark. ISU did tally 60 digs to Central Michigan's 59, and Idaho State also won the battle of the blocks 6-2.
Gurney and Collette's efforts landed them on the Super 8 Chippewa Classic All-Tournament team. Gurney recorded 34 kills through the three matches, while Collette collected 96 assists and 36 digs over the tournament.
