Bengal - Where did you grow up?
Smith - I was born in Phoenix. I grew up in a little tiny 1A town in Pima, Arizona.
Bengal - How long have you run track?
Smith - Since my eighth grade year, since I moved to Pima, so for nine years.
Bengal - Why did you start running track?
Smith - Actually my friend asked me to come out for track and I came out my eighth grade year and I won my first race and that is how it started. I thought that I was a ball player and that was all, and we didn't have a track team and I wasn't good at many things.
Bengal - Why did you choose ISU?
Smith - Actually, I didn't know anything about it and I found out through the grape vine. I found out from a girl I competed against at the junior college I went to. I talked to Hillary Merkley a competitor and she said that this was a good place to be a heptathlete.
Bengal - Who will be the toughest in the Big Sky Conference to beat this year?
Smith - NAU will be hard coming back, especially for what they brought in from years before. We'll be getting ready for what is to come.
Bengal - Do you have any favorite professional teams?
Smith - Yeah, I love the Phoenix Suns.
Bengal - What is your dream vacation?
Smith - It is actually to go to Mexico, off the beach location spots. I've never been to Cabo San Lucas or Beach point and I live so close. I would love to just take off and go.
Bengal - What was your first job?
Smith - Actually, I worked at Dairy Queen when I was 16 for two summers.
Bengal - What do you hope to accomplish for the team. What is the team's overall goal?
Smith - I hope a Big Sky Championship for sure. I hope as many teammates as can go to regionals and then on to nationals. I hope to win Big Sky in the heptathlon and I hope to do well in indoors as well. I hope to make it to regionals and nationals. I hope to be a teammate that can be relied on in the relay teams, and strengthen others so they can rely on me.
