"The Hitcher" could possibly be the best thriller of the season! This newly remade version of a 1986 hit boasts refreshing additions and a convincing cast. Sophia Bush stars as Grace Andrews alongside Zachary Knighton, who plays Jim Halsey, the on-screen couple are on their way to a popular spring break destination, when they have the misfortune of meeting John Ryder, played by Sean Bean.

John Ryder is the hitchhiker on a lonely stretch of highway in the pouring rain; however, that's the extent of the predictable plotline, unless you've seen the 1986 version. Even if you have seen the 1986 version, there will be some unexpected plot twists and changes; including the addition of Grace Andrews, who replaces the less appealing character, Nash, in the 1986 version. The plot line has received some updates and the changes make great use of Ryder's more haunting dialogue and moments, as well as adding to the credibility of the situation.

Ryder's updated character also has a terrifying hint of the infamous Ted Bundy; who reportedly dressed in navy blue and commandingly directed his unsuspecting victims to pull off the road. Few people were resistant to Bundy's authoritative directions, because he dressed and poised himself to resemble a police officer. This is just one of the many hair-raising moments in this film. Pay careful attention to some of the mannerisms and actions of Ryder, and you may obtain valuable insights.

This modern version of "The Hitcher" will hold you captive, as Ryder delivers a chilling glimpse into the deviant mind of a sociopath. "The Hitcher" is brutal and mostly believable; there are a few instances of Hollywood license, but they don't damage the credibility of Ryder's haunting illness.

If you haven't seen 1986's version of "The Hitcher" you may want to rent it, but wait until after you see 2007's "The Hitcher" in theaters.
