POCATELLO, Idaho - This year's Simplot Games set some high standards for the rest of the track and field season. If this is any indication of what is to come, it should be a great season to follow high school track and field.
One national record, one meet record, one all-time record, a couple national best marks for 2007, and an uncountable number of personal bests highlighted the Games.
• Bianca Knight, a senior from Ridgeland, Miss., sets a new 200 meter national record with her time of 22.97. The previous time was set by Allyson Felix in Mexico City in 2003.
• Luke Puskedra, a junior from Salt Lake City, Utah, set a new Simplot Games meet record in the 1600 meters with a time of 4:13.62.
• Trenton Guy Jr., a senior from Charlotte, N.C., blazed in the 200 meters with a time of 21.52 a U.S. #1 this season. Guy also ran the 60 meters in 6.78 which ranks him fifth in the country.
• Jeneba Tarmoh, a senior from San Jose, Calif., ran the 60 meters in 7.26 which is the U.S. #5 all time.
