Taking a stand for the ladies
Tiffany Doherty
Issue date: 4/4/07 Section: Opinion
In light of last month being women's history month I've decided that it's time to speak up a little for the ladies. It's about time that we stand and be counted for the beautiful specimens of humankind that we are! Down with the sexist jokes and chauvinist slurs!
Now I've heard too many times that "women have come a long way." Well might I ask, why we ever had to come all that way in the first place? Sure, men were the mighty hunters and fed the family but without the life-sustaining womb of the female, there would be no family to speak of! So what if men can open the pickle jars for us, that's a plus but let's be honest here folks, giving birth is pretty amazing next to a jar of open baby dills. Don't get me wrong, men deserve as much respect and recognition in this life as anyone, but how did it come about that they get it with no effort while we have fought tooth and nail to vote? We are human beings but not quite so much as men…hmm…I'd like to know who came up with that idea. We are the bearers of all life and we have to burn our bras to make a point! It's lunacy!!
Some of you may not see the inequalities that we lovely ladies face on a day-to-day basis, but no worries! Consider yourself lucky because I'm here to inform! Ever notice that a single working dad is the recipient of great praise simply because he is doing what it takes to care for his children, but a single working mom is just doing what is expected of her? Yet another injustice is the fact that a man who has more than a few women in his life is considered nothing less than a stud and role model for all mankind, while any woman with more than one man is considered promiscuous and irresponsible- it doesn't compute with reason here folks! I'm going to avoid the subject of maxi pads but let me tell you men one thing - try it for a week and you'll never crack another joke about PMS.
I must mention that while bearing life is awesome, women are amazing in a plethora of other ways. Contrary to popular belief it is not a woman's "lot in life" to have children. I know women in their fifties who never bore children and yet have made priceless contributions to society. There are many women who are earning PhD's right alongside men, women who are changing the world for the better every day.

How amusing, almost one year since you've posted this reply and I just noticed. I'm wondering what the relevance of your story was, the one about some girl cheating on you with a troll? (and apparently this happens to you all the time? At work, while eating at restaraunts. (Continued…)

How amusing that you seem proud of your ignorance of posted replies to your column... I don't see your ingorance amusing at all. I don't see how you being ignorant makes Shawn's comments any less important than yours. (Continued…)

Being a woman, for the most part she is right. Woman do tend to have some pretty stereotypical cheap shots thrown at them. However, I believe men get it just as bad, in different ways. (Continued…)

Well, it seems that Ima Scientist proves that the "I am not posting spam" warning is just for show and that any guttersnipe can intrude in on an otherwise intelligent "conversation. (Continued…)
