Idaho State head volleyball coach Mike Welch announced on Wednesday the signing of high school standouts Sarah Carson and Jenna Proost to national letters of intent to join the Bengals for the 2007-08 academic year.
\Carson heads to Idaho State from Loveland, Colorado, where she was a standout at Mountain View High School. The 6'-0" middle blocker was named to both the All-State and All-Colorado teams in 2006. She played club volleyball for Club One 18-Gold. Carson was also a member of the National Honor Society for three years at MVHS.
"Sarah is an athletic and skilled player who possesses talent at the net and in the backcourt," Welch said. "She will have the ability to impact our team in numerous positions in her first year."
Proost joins Idaho State after a stellar career at Eagle High School in Eagle, Idaho. The 5'-8" libero led EHS to the Idaho State Championship in 2006. She earned an All-Conference nod for her efforts. Proost played club volleyball for Club Idaho 18-Gold. Proost moved to Eagle, Idaho her junior year of high school after growing up playing volleyball in Long Beach, Calif.
"Jenna has game," Welch said. "She is an outstanding passer with an amazing platform. She has all the skills and competitiveness to become a great libero in the Big Sky."
Carson and Proost join ISU early signees Britta Bartschi, Charlee Kinghorn, and Brenda Cooper.
"The class of 2007 has shaped up to be one of great athleticism and talent," Welch said. "We have four six-foot players in this class touching 9-10 or above. Firepower and big net play will be emphasized in this class. Three of our signees this year are from Idaho, increasing our team roster to almost half Idahoans, with two others being daughters of parents who are Idaho State alums."
