Virginia Tech
Dear Editor,
As a Bengal alum (B.S. Zoology, 1999) and current graduate student at Virginia Tech, I was touched to see that Idaho State University had devoted a section on its main webpage to send condolences in the wake of the April 16th tragedy. The outpouring from across the nation and around the world has been tremendous, and we can never truly express how much it has meant. I'm a very long way from my hometown of Twin Falls, ID but gestures such as those exhibited by ISU make the world feel a little smaller. Thank you for all your support.

Seatbelts
Dear Editor,
As a student myself, I would also like to remind students across the state to buckle up as they take off for the summer to travel, party, and hang out. Coming from experience, seat belts have saved my own and my family's lives twice in major highway car crashes.
An idea to keep in mind is 20 percent of Idahoans that fail to fasten their seat belts account for 60 percent of the people killed in traffic crashes, according to the Idaho Transportation Department. The fact that a family/friend was NOT wearing a seat belt in a crash only adds to the emotional anguish if their life is lost. I think everyone knows of someone who was killed in a car crash while not wearing their seat belt. In 2005, there were 88 lives in Idaho saved by seat belts, yet 126 lives were lost in car crashes where a seat belt was not worn. The latter number is far too high for Idaho's small population.
If you would like more information about Idaho seat belt use please feel free to contact me.
