This past weekend presented three exciting days for the Bengal track team, including more than 700 high school athletes who competed in a two-day span. Though only a handful of college athletes came to compete, the Bengals finished strong and received many good marks.

Brittany Rozier, a sprinter, finished strong with two first place marks. She ran the 100 meter dash in 12.39 seconds, while Jessica Johnson finished in second place, running a 12.69. Rozier and Tiffany Andersen were neck and neck in the 200 meter dash, Rozier running a 24.71, barely finishing ahead of Andersen who ran a 24.73.

Andersen finished first in the 400 meter dash, with a time of 56.05. In addition to Andersen, Melissa McLimore ran a 57.18 and earned second place. McLimore qualified for regionals with a 2:10.34 finish in the 800 meter run. Jenny Downey and Gemma Maini came in second and third place respectively, behind McLimore.

Carrie Talbot threw well in the shot put with a throw of 45-10.5. Jessica Hillam beat the competition and placed first in both the hammer throw and the discus throw. Audra Smith placed first in the heptathlon with 4855 points while teammate Sydney Wendt finished a close second with a total score of 4665.

In the triple jump, Sydney Wendt hopped away with the win by jumping 37-01.25. Amanda Vink finished in second place with a mark of 34-09.05. Vink said about the track meet, "I think that in collegiate there were some strong marks, but not a lot of competition. It was a good meet for the high schools athletes." The women Bengals are really looking forward to the potential that they hold for the conference meet. "I am so excited for conference and I really want to do well because the meet is held here at ISU," said Vink.

On the men's side, Ryan Dick blew away the competition in both the 100 and 200 meter dashes. He ran a 10.93 in the 100 and a 21.65 in the 200. The men's decathlon ended well for first place finisher Levi Keller, scoring 6244 points. Brad Sylvester came in third with 6098 points.

Saheed Khan won a close race against Calgary's Peter Corrigan in the 800 meter run. Khan finished with a time of 1:54.25 and Corrigan placed second with 1:54.72. In the 1500 meter run, Corrigan won by a nose finishing in 4:01.52 and Khan hot on his track with a 4:01.56, good enough for second.

The men and women's track team compete at the Robison Invitational in Provo, Utah on April 25-28. The Big Sky Conference meet will be held at ISU's Davis field on May 9-12.
