Pocatello, ID --- Idaho State University's first spring practice season under new head coach John Zamberlin ended with a 44-15 win for the offense in the annual Spring Game, which took place in Holt Arena. The offense blew open a 10-10 halftime tie with four second half touchdowns, taking advantage of the second half starting field position of the defense's 40 and 20-yard lines.

Russel Hill threw a pair of touchdown passes, one in each half, and Codi Boek ran for one and threw for another. Luke Butler also ran a touchdown drive and helped ISU to a pair of field goals as well.

While the offense earned points conventionally, the defense scored one for a forced punt and two for a three-and-out. They also scored three for an interception or a fumble recovery, and six for a touchdown. Each quarter consisted of three drives of six plays or so for each of the three quarterbacks, and ISU started at their own 20 in the first quarter, and each quarter saw the opening scrimmage line move up 20 yards.

The defense led 5-0 after the first, stopping the offense four straight times, including a three-and-out. Terrence Calloway then picked off a Russel Hill pass that bounced off the hands of Jaron Taylor to make it 8-0 before the offense got on the board. Russel Hill hit Ken Cornist for a 25-yard scoring pass, and Branden Jones' extra point made it 8-7. After another three and out, Jones' 32-yard field goal tied the game at 10 going into halftime.

In the second half, with the offense starting on the plus side of the field, they took serious advantage. First, Dan Zeidman, the team's punter who is also the long field goal kicker, hit a 53-yarder with ease to make it 13-10. The defense pulled a three-and-out to make it 13-12, but that would be their last hurrah.

Codi Boek showed off his wheels with a 6-yard touchdown run to make it 20-12, and then Jones connected from 47 to end the third quarter with the offense up 23-12. Russel Hill then put the game out of reach, rolling out, avoiding the blitz and hitting Josh Barnett for a 29-yard touchdown pass.

Amir Owens cut the lead back to 30-15, recovering a fumble in the end zone, after Codi Boek fumbled the snap on the goal line, but Boek hit Edsel Logan for a 20-yard score on the next play. The game ended after another fumble on the goal line, this by Josh Barnett, but Jon Winn came up with the ball under a pile of players for the final score of the game.

Idaho State's offense totaled 362 yards on the day in 70 plays, and the plays were 2-to-1 rushes, with 24 passes and 48 runs. Bengal quarterbacks were 10-for-24 for 202 yards with three touchdowns and an interception, and the rushing-wise, ISU carried 48 times for 160 yards. Clint Knickrehm led all the running backs with 78 yards on 13 bruising carries, and Ken Cornist added 50 yards on eight carries.

Russel Hill led the quarterbacks, going 5-for-11 with 2 touchdowns and 109 yards passing. Edsel Logan caught three passes for 59 yards. Scott Jossis led the defense with six tackles.
