The annual White Tent Event introduces all freshmen and new students to the cornucopia of activities, fraternities and sororities present at ISU. Students are encouraged to join activities and clubs to make this year and those to come at ISU enjoyable.
"[The White Tent Event] is a good opportunity for new students to see what's happening on campus," said sophomore Joey Henson.
Fraternities and sororities were looking to recruit members in to their ranks. Such groups included Alpha Kappa Psi (AKY) and Alpha Xi Delta (A?D). Chi Alpha used golf carts to give free "taxi" rides around campus.
Many other booths were set up to augment student's participation, using items ranging from freebies and bungee balls to laundry bags.
Unlike many other vendors, Danson offered a degree along with participating in club activities.
The Chess club also came to play and presented an expensive chessboard as a prize for their speed tournament held on Friday, Aug. 31.
"[The White Tent Event] is good because everything is all in one location. It's good for our club because we are usually passed by in the Student Union Building," said a chess club representative.
Those who attended small community colleges before enrolling at ISU found that this event is just what those smaller colleges lacked, a good way to find out what was happening on campus.
