ISU MOVES with IMOVE Dance Auditions

Issue date: 9/12/07 Section: Life
Next, Zimmerly led the dancers in a series of floor movements to New Age music playing in the background.
Jorgenson conducted the final phase, which focused mainly on the gestures of the dancers. She instructed them, "play with another quality…make the movement your own." She encouraged them to express their movements with hand gestures and facial expressions. As they did this, the dancers suddenly became happy, somber, angry and sad. After the piece, the dancers appeared tired, sweating and breathing hard from the exertion of dancing.
The auditions ended there. Before exiting, Zimmerly, Vissers and Jorgensen sat down with the dancers and addressed everyone who auditioned. Zimmerly said, "If you are not chosen, it's not because you aren't a beautiful dancer, it's because we are looking for moves to fit our particular pieces." Then they exited the room to compare notes and make the decision on who will be the newest I~move dancers.
The next I~move concert will be in the Stephens Performing Arts Center at 7:30 p.m. on Feb. 7,8, and 9. Anyone interested in dance may contact a faculty dancer at 282-6143.
