The College Market played host to two amazing poets Bethany Schultz and Charlie Potts Wednesday night. Schultz, a creative writing professor at ISU, kicked off the evening with a series of beautifully written imaginative forays into the magic behind everyday life showcasing her immense talent.
Charlie Potts, who in 1994 received a Distinguished Professional Achievement Award from ISU, came out with a strong energy shaking things up. A welcome contrast to the quiet reverence often experienced at literary events. Potts read from a few of his books selecting everything from prose, poetry, and an awesome nightcap of songs.
Potts who was a friend of the famous writer Charles Bukowski told anecdotes of funny experiences they had together often mimicking Bukowski's voice. "He [Potts] does a mean Charles Bukowski impression" Schultz mentioned after the reading.
Sophomore Janiece Stromberg had this to say about the reading "I liked it a lot! I'm really excited for future events and I'll be sure to have more money when I come back next time so I can buy books."
Stromberg also commented on listening to her professor read, "it makes it easier to understand that you can still be a teacher and practice your craft."
The night of poetry was as Schultz put it "a nice way to come back from the summer and get the literary events rolling."
