ISU's old school parking meters have recently been replaced with high-tech electronic meters, complete with LED lights and the capacity to provide electronic printouts of usage. They also don't jam up like the old ones did. Director of Public Safety Stephen Chatterton explained that, "they don't make mechanical ones (parking meters) anymore" and parts for the mechanical parking meters were becoming scarce and more difficult to find.
ISU, like many institutions across the country, commemorated the signing of the United States Constitution during the third annual ISU Constitution Day celebration on Monday, Sept. 17, in the Canoe Room of the Pond Student Union Building. Dr. David Gray Adler spoke during the short celebration on the current state of our founding document and of the United States.
When he started as a student at ISU in 1964, Blaine Burkman knew he was going to accomplish his goal of attending college and earning a degree. He sought out various options and found his first interest was in Diesel Technology. However, when he learned the program was full the upcoming semester and he knew he had to get in; he followed his counselor's advice and enrolled in the Graphic Arts/Printing Technology program.

Over the past few months, a committee has been meeting to clarify whether or not alcohol may be served at sanctioned, off-campus ISU events. While no definitive answer has been reached, according to Lee Krehbiel, Vice President of Student Affairs, a proposal for a clearer statement on the regulation should be produced in about a month.

Pocatello - ISU officials have announced enrollment figures as of the 10th day of enrollment for fall 2007. Overall enrollment includes 13,208 students, an increase of 532 students - or 4.2 percent increase - from fall 2006. In addition to the overall enrollment increase, there is an increase of more than 10 percent in admission applications with more than 7,400 total applications.
ISU President Arthur C. Vailas, now in his second year as university president, plans to continue the trend set last year of changing and reshaping ISU in an effort to make it more accessible, transparent, and attractive. According to Vailas, the only thing that he doesn't plan on changing is the current trend of constantly changing to adapt to new challenges.
Pocatello - New ISU Associate Provost for Enrollment Management Steven R. Neiheisel, Ph.D., brings to ISU more than 20 years of experience as dean and/or director of enrollment offices. As chief enrollment officer at other institutions, Neiheisel organized and led institutional efforts to establish enrollment management goals and strategies.

According to Bob Devine, a member of the Idaho Progressive Student Alliance (IPSA), their organization filed suit in the Associated Students of ISU (ASISU) Supreme Court Monday, Sept. 17, against the ASISU Senate. The suit alleges violation of the ASISU Constitution by the Senate via a bill passed by them last year.
ISU Public Safety recently received criticism about their motorcycle patrol. The criticism indicated that Doug Klingler, the officer who rides the motorcycle, does not have adequate training to use the motorcycle in a law enforcement manner. However, according to Stephen Chatterton, Director of Public Safety, this isn't an accurate assessment of the situation.
On 09/08/07 at approximately 0040 hours at Turner Hall, Public Safety responded to multiple individuals stuck on an elevator. The elevator was reset and the individuals were let out. On 09/08/07 at approximately 2237 hours in the G01 Lot, Public Safety assisted Pocatello Police in locating a car wanted for questioning in a property damage incident.
The Student Organizations Fair took place Wed., Sept. 13, on the Quad, showcasing the various clubs at ISU. Tables lined with information about the clubs beckoned to students in the hopes of recruiting new members and making their existence known to those who may share their interests.
