According to Bob Devine, a member of the Idaho Progressive Student Alliance (IPSA), their organization filed suit in the Associated Students of ISU (ASISU) Supreme Court Monday, Sept. 17, against the ASISU Senate. The suit alleges violation of the ASISU Constitution by the Senate via a bill passed by them last year.
The IPSA alleges that the bill, which gave the Program Board (now known as the Student Activities Board) the authority to hire and fire its members without the approval of the Senate, violates Art. IV, Sec. 1, Clause 6 of the ASISU Constitution. This clause states essentially that the Association president, with Senate approval, shall have the power to appoint students members of all University committees, and shall also have the power, with Senate approval, to remove those student members.
The IPSA contends that allowing the Program Board this power without a formal amendment is a violation of the ASISU Constitution. At the time of printing, no other information was available on this matter. The Bengal will follow this story as it develops and continue to publish updates when available.
