After a big game against smaller Southern Oregon, Eddie Thompson cemented himself as a big-time receiver and NFL prospect by having a huge game against OSU. When OSU Coach, Mike Riley was asked, at halftime how the Beaver defense would stop ISU's Eddie Thompson he said, "I don't know, we're having a hard time with him. He's a good player. They've got a nice scheme where they can get the ball to him."
If Eddie can get 12 catches for 174 yards against a Pac-10 defense, there is certainly reason to believe that he can do it against Big Sky defenses as well.
Bengal offensive lineman Aaron Klovas transferred to ISU last year after 2 years at the University of Oregon. He offered the following comparison between the Oregon-Oregon State "Civil War" and the ISU-OSU "Civil Dispute." He said, "The overall atmosphere was a lot more subdued. I actually got hit with beer cup as I walked out of the tunnel with the Ducks." OSU fans treated ISU with a lot of respect. Klovas continued, "Fans were excited and loud for first quarter and then they settled down." The crowd was so loud that ISU had to use a silent count throughout first quarter. ISU helped to quiet them down by moving the ball like they did. 38,491 fans were good preparation for the smaller Big Sky stadiums.
The ISU-OSU game can be summed up in a statement an OSU fan made after the game. He walked up to the team and said, "Good job, keep your heads up. Thanks for coming up to play us. You guys have a good team and should have a good year."
