Hiking and Hot Spring-ing
On Saturday September 22, students from ISU drove north towards Kelly Canyon Ski Resort near Idaho Falls. Their final destination? Heise Hot Springs. Their goal? To enjoy some fresh air and hot water.
Before the group could swim, they had to hike into the lands of the Targhee National Forest. After the hike, they enjoyed a visit to Heise Hot Springs. The hot springs is located near the South Fork of the Snake River in Ririe, Idaho. Heise Hot Springs is a privately owned resort that promises 82 degrees of filtered fresh water in their swimming pool that will remain open throughout September. The pool has a 350 foot water slide for the adventurous swimmer, and for those interested in really hot water, Heise has 105 degree mineral soak pools.
Later that evening, fully relaxed from the soak in the all-natural hot water, the students headed back to Pocatello.
Pebble Creek Offers ISU Student Discount
The 2007-2008 downhill ski season is almost upon us. This season Pebble Creek Resort is offering a special discount on season passes to ISU students. The regular cost of $399 will be reduced to $229 (plus tax) for current ISU students. Students must present their Bengal card to receive the discount.
Upcoming Events
This past week you missed kayaking in Alpine Canyon and horseback riding at the Ridge Riders' Rendezvous. Don't miss out on this weekend's events.
Sixth Yellowstone Tour
The Outdoor Adventure Center will be leading a group of students on a fall tour of Yellowstone National Park from September 28 to the 30th. All will spend the weekend camping and hiking at their leisure. The fall season offers fewer crowds and pre-snow views of landscapes and animals. Students will do a variety of day hikes around lakes and designated trails and help decide on which parts of the park to tour. Participants of all skill levels are welcome. There will be a pre-trip meeting at 6:00 pm at the Outdoor Adventure Center (OAC). To claim your spot in the van, sign up at the OAC on the first floor of the PSUB by September 26.
Climbing at Castle Rocks State Park
Rock climbers of all skill levels are invited to join the Outdoor Adventure Center at Idaho's newest state park on Saturday the 29th of September. Come and join in the fun.
Teton National Park Float Trip
On September the 29th, students led by the Outdoor Adventure Center will spend the day floating down the Snake River in Teton National Park. The route follows a calm and paddler-friendly section of the river, so people new to rafting should feel at ease participating in this activity. The changing leaves, wild animals, and other general beauties of the area should provide a welcome respite from a tough week of work and school. Sign up by September 28th and come to a planning meeting on September 26th at 5:00 pm.
