The win against the Bengals improved Weber to 5-6 on the season and 2-1 in league play. In the 5 game match, not one of the games ended with more than a four point deficit for either team. The Bengals shot out to an early lead in the first game and defeated the Wildcats, 30-28. Weber bounced back and stole the next two games. ISU fought back and took the victory on the fourth game, but and early lead in the fifth game against the Bengals was just enough to push Weber over the top.
Three players on the ISU side reached double digits in kills. Freshman, Charlee Kinghorn led the pack with a match-high of 22 kills. Kinghorn recorded those kills on 57 attacks for a hitting mark of .351. Emily Waldron and Sarah Carson also attacked the net with 16 and 13 kills respectively.
Chistine Van Orden said about the game, "We expected this to be a good match and we expected to win. We need to work on blocking and consistency for the next game." Van Orden made her presence known with a team high of 54 assists, 18 digs, and six kills. Weber and ISU tied the game with 11 blocks each. Carson led ISU with a career high of seven blocks. Van Orden also stated, "Our floor defense was good, it was something that we've been working on."
Micah Lines and Brittney Bisaillon led Weber State with 18 kills each. The Wildcats collected 77 kills over ISU's 69, and ended the match with a .242 attack percentage. The Bengals collected 219 attacks and 87 digs against The Wildcat's tallied 206 attacks and 98 digs.
In a back and forth battle against UVU, ISU came up just short, falling 3-1, Saturday night at Reed Gym. The match saw 30 ties and 18 lead changes, as well as a total of 122 kills and 339 attacks.
Idaho state registered 47 of the kills and 156 attacks for a .109 hitting mark. Emily Waldron led the team with 13 kills on 36 attacks with only five errors. Charlee Kinghorn, again hit double figures with 12 kills, 40 attacks, and seven errors. She also tallied up 19 digs defensively, the team high of the match. Christine Van Orden aggressively recorded a double-double with 35 assists and 12 digs throughout the match.
Sarah Carson and Jessica Gurney tied the lead for ISU with three blocks each. Gurney stated, "In our game next week, we need to dig deep in all areas of the court throughout the whole game, not just parts."
ISU tallied seven blocks to UVU's 12. Utah Valley led the game with 75 kills and 183 attacks with a .230 hitting mark. Camie Manwill led Utah Valley with an impressive 24 kills, followed by Jessica Endres who tallied up 17 throughout the match.
With the loss, ISU falls to 3-11 on the season and 0-4 in Big Sky play. UVU has a 6-5 record for the season. Idaho State will play one more game at home before hitting the road when it hosts Sacramento State on Friday Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. in Reed gym.
