Nicole Sherrod was pleased with the night last Friday when one musician and several poets arrived to display their talent. "Its a venue to express themselves," which several artists used to their advantage.
Sherrod works for the Student Activities Board. The SAB hopes to offer the event once a month at the Bengal Café.
"We want students to look forward to this," Sherrod said. Artists get as long of time on the stage as they would like.
The night allowed published poet Kelly Ricken, an ISU senior, to promote her most recent works. Kelly has written for over 10 years, her favorite line coming from her work "Charlie Chaplin" read "as strange and stock as a milk thistle."
Some poets came to read from published works long before they were born. Sophomore Mathew Price read from Speaker for Little Boys and Girls "Tommy's First" published in 1835.
Over 30 people showed up to see the artistic talent. 'It looked interesting. I've been to a few before in other places" said Todd Hammrich.
Of some of the artists, like Garth Gaylord a local ISU guitar player, showcased some of his own created music. While young poets Jeff Pearson 19 yr old sophomore and James Lloyd 23 yr old freshman read some of their original poetry.
Particpants sign up at the beginning of the event on a first come first serve basis. Contact SAB for future Open Mic nights.
