The Idaho State University Institute of Rural Health and TeleHealth Idaho presents the Youth Suicide Prevention VGR Series, a four-week series that will be video-cast throughout Idaho. Speakers will cover topics on substance abuse and mental illness, trauma, community collaboration, and evidence-based approaches to youth suicide prevention. Family members, clinicians, educators, advocates and those who work with or have an interest in youth suicide prevention are invited. All sessions will run on Thursdays from 10 a.m. to noon. The topic for Oct. 11 will be "The link between mental illness and substance abuse." Participants will learn about national statistics, co-occurring disorders, along with evidence-based treatment models and strategies for those affected by mental illnesses and substance.
The ISU Department of Theatre and Dance opens up its 2007-08 production season with the restoration comedy, "The Country Wife." Performances run on Oct. 12-13 and Oct. 18-20. All presentations are at 7:30 p.m. in the L. E. and Thelma E. Stephens Performing Arts Center Beverly B. Bistline Thrust Theatre. Ticket prices are as follows: adults, $12; seniors, $10; children ages 6-12, $7 and ISU students with Bengal card, $5. This program contains adult subject matter and is recommended for mature audiences only. Tickets are available at the Stephens Center Box Office, or by phone at 282-3595. Theatre 490 proudly presents PRIDE AND PREJUDICE: A MUSICAL in Concert Version, Saturday, Oct, 13, at 2 p.m. and Monday, Oct. 15, at 7:30 p.m. in the Rogers Black Box Theatre of the Stephens Performing Arts Center. Advanced-performance students are producing this original musical as part of Theatre/Dance ISU's Practicum class. The 90-minute presentation tells the story of Elizabeth Bennett and her family as they ponder their loves and lives in late nineteenth century England. Suggested donation at the door.
ZUM will perform at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, in the Joseph C. and Cheryl H. Jensen Grand Concert Hall of the L.E. and Thelma E. Stephens Performing Arts Center as part of ISU's 2007-08 "A Season of Note" performing arts series. ZUM features an eclectic blend of jazz threads, gypsy fiddle music, and Argentinean tango with Celtic, salsa, bluegrass, Arabic, and calypso influences. Ticket prices are $24 main level, $20 upper level. The group's Web site is www.zum.org.uk.
