The 2007 ISU Homecoming was packed with events, ranging from window painting in the SUB Canoe Room, to a hot dog eating contest on the ISU quad, to the Quietdrive concert Friday night in the SUB Ballroom. The week wrapped up Sat., Oct. 6, with the Bengal football team defeating Northern Colorado 26-14.
Several ISU organizations competed for Homecoming domination by trying to obtain the most "participation points," but the ISU Ambassadors ultimately won the prize with 273 points, according to the Student Leadership and Involvement Center.
Kappa Sigma and the Ambassadors battled for Homecoming supremacy through much of the week. The Ambassadors won the Spirit Log hunt on Monday, but Kappa Sigma responded by taking second in the SUB window painting competition. The Hispanic Awareness and Leadership Organization (HALO) took first. The Ambassadors were able to obtain a small lead over Kappa Sigma with consistent participation and high attendance at events early in the week. Kappa Sigma, however, gained more ground on the Ambassadors on Thursday by winning the Club Salsa Competition with a recipe created by Josh Hale, one of its members.
In spite of Kappa Sigma winning first place for their Homecoming parade float - a Viking ship - on Saturday, the Ambassadors finally secured their victory over the fraternity late in the week. This happened after two of its members (Nayland Olsen and Shawnee Knapp) were voted Homecoming King and Queen Thursday night at the Homecoming Pageant, which gave them a crucial 30 extra points, and the win.
The LDS Student Association (LDSSA) candidates, Josh Sutherland and Brynn Winterbottom, won the titles of Homecoming Prince and Princess, while the HALO candidates, Juan Hernandez and Bibiana Ramirez, won the titles of Homecoming Duke and Dutchess.
Kappa Sigma ended up taking second place with 226 points. The LDSSA finished third in the overall Homecoming competition with 216 points, and HALO finished fourth with 205 points.
