Bengals fall on road, still winless in conference

Charlee Kinghorn scores her third career double-double Thursday night at Northern Arizona, but the ISU Bengals will have to wait to pick up their first conference win of the season after coming up short against NAU 3-0 (26-30, 27-30, 27-30) Thursday night at Rolle Activity Center in Flagstaff.
The Bengals slip to 0-5 in the Big Sky and 3-13 overall. NAU improves to 2-4 in conference and 7-9 overall. ISU was competitive in all three games, but was unable to put the finishing touches on any of them for the loss.
The Bengals were lead by freshman Charlee Kinghorn who picked up her third double-double of her career by smacking a team high 15 kills and scooping up 10 digs. She also matched her career high with 3 total blocks.
Christine Van Orden set the table for ISU with 40 assists. That went along with 12 digs for her 8th double-double of the season. Katie Edgson led the Bengals in digs with 14.
Kim Babcock set the tone for the Lumberjacks with an impressive 21 kill, 20 dig performance. Kelly Verboom as chipped in 48 assists for NAU.
The Bengals then went on to play against Northern Colorado Saturday night as Blakely Peppinger and Emily Waldron led the way, but the Bengals fell to 0-6 in Big Sky.
Junior Blakely Peppinger set a new high for her by collecting 28 assists against NCU. Her previous career high was 18 earlier this season against Montana-Western. Emily Waldron matched a season high with 16 kills in a losing effort as Idaho State loses at Northern Colorado 3-1 (23-30, 26-30, 30-26, 21-30) Saturday night.
The Bears took the first two games before the Bengals won the third game. NCU took the fourth game for the match. Idaho State drops to 0-6 in the Big Sky, 3-14 overall. NCU is 5-14 overall and 3-4 in the Big Sky.
Waldron also came up with 11 digs for her 7th double-double of the season. That matches Christine Van Orden for the Bengal lead in double-doubles in 2007. Waldron led ISU with 47 total attacks and hit .213.
Peppinger shared setting duties with Van Orden as Christine came up with 15 assists and Blakely got her 28. Senior Katie Edgson led the defensive effort with 26 digs.Charlee Kinghorn was a dig shy of another double-double. She logged 11 kills and 9 digs.
The Idaho State Bengals will now get to sleep in their own bed for a while with the next five matches coming at home. This week they will host Montana on Friday and Montana State on Saturday. Both matches set to start at 7 pm and will be played at Reed Gym.
